Association for solidarity with asylum seekers and migrants
ASAM was established in 1995 in Ankara/Turkey as an independent, impartial and non-profit association to assist refugees and asylum seekers living in Turkey. ASAM offers services to all asylum-seeking and refugee groups without any discrimination. With about 1.300 staff members including social workers, field workers, psychologists, health educators, lawyers, interpreters, disability experts, mobile team assistants, family counsellors, youth workers and instructors, ASAM has been providing a wide range of services and has been assisting refugees and asylum seekers in accessing their rights and services related to protection, education, health, psychological support and social services. By opening its first overseas representative office in Athens in 2016 and Brussels in 2019, ASAM has carried its 25 years of experience in the field of migration to an international level. Since it was established, ASAM Greece has been accomplishing its representative role in Greece, working in close collaboration with ASAM Turkey, following up the migration movements from Turkey to Greece, conducting desk research on the developments on migrants and refugees situation in the country, and supporting Ankara HQ at generating solutions to the problems refugees encounter. By identifying existing gaps in terms of protection and service provision, ASAM Greece aims to assist in tackling the refugee crisis in Greece through the provision of support to refugees and asylum seekers, emphasizing supporting vulnerable social groups and respecting the relevant rules of international and national law
