Active citizens fund: Announcement of the allocation of an additional €1.5 million in grants to Civil Society

Bodossaki Foundation and SolidarityNow, in their capacity as Fund Operator of the Active citizens fund (ACF) programme for Greece, announce the allocation of an additional €1.5 million in grants under the programme, whose total budget now has reached €15 million. In April 2023, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, the donor countries of the EEA Financial Mechanism (EEA Grants) for the 2014-2021 programming period, decided to fund the Active citizens fund programme with an additional €1.5 million.

Bodossaki Foundation and SolidarityNow, in consultation with the EEA Financial Mechanism, have decided to allocate the above additional grant amount as follows:

  • A grant amount of €350,000 to six (6) projects from the ranking list of runner-up projects of the Call for “Organizational grants to support the strategic development of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs)”.
  • A grant amount of €250,000 to three (3) projects that will implement activities for the empowerment of Roma populations in Greece. These projects come from the ranking list of runner-up projects of previous Calls, which had received high evaluation scores.
  • A total grant amount of €928,000 to additional activities falling within the scope of the projects already funded by the Active citizens fund programme and currently in progress. Part of this amount comes from unspent grant amounts of completed projects under the programme.

The Active citizens fund in Greece is supported through a € 15 m grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as part of the EEA Grants 2014 – 2021. The program aims to develop the sustainability and capacity of the civil society sector in Greece, and to strengthen its role in promoting and safeguarding democratic procedures, active citizenship and human rights.
