The rationale of the project is connected with the urgent need for teachers in Thrace to be trained in gender equality and the fight against gender-based violence.

There is a lack of promotion of gender equality and the fight against gender-based violence in education together with inefficiency in policies to promote equality in borderline areas with minority population such as Thrace. As a result, there is a reproduction of key stakeholders’  (educators’, parents’, students’) stereotypes and the continuation of acts of gender-based violence, such as early school leaving by girls, early marriages mainly of girls, small percentage of female pupils following technological professions, drop outs from courses, lack of basic and mainly digital literacy skills . The cultural and religious diversity in the area of Thrace needs special attention and different pedagogical approaches.

In order to address the above challenges, a two-day distance learning workshop for teachers will be implemented. The target group is  20 teachers of general, vocational and minority education schools located in the prefectures of Evros, Rodopi and Xanthi. The trainee teachers will act as multipliers in their schools and they will apply gender equality pedagogical approaches to their students.

The main beneficiary groups are teachers and students. The trainers will be experienced professionals and schools specialists. It is estimated that 20 teachers and 200 students will be actively involved upon completion of the project.
